Papa – A Product Of Television - 10 Days To Go…

I was having a debate with my colleagues today, and it got my thinking.

What is papa a product of ? Let’s analyze…

When I was a child, I used to watch transformers on TV and play with Lego. By the way, really looking forward to watching the movie, although I’m sure the storyline will suck.

When I was a teen, I used to watch fresh prince in bel-air on TV and play video games in 256 colors on my super-fast 486DX4-100Mhz.

When I was in my late teens, I used to read car magazines, watch Top Gear on TV and tinker with my moped.

Today, I watch Top Gear, 5th Gear on TV and regularly visit car communities (forums) on the Internet.

What word goes again and again in the lines above ? Did you say TV ? Yes that’s correct.

Papa was brought up by TV. Hours and hours of TV influence has molded and shaped my mind and personality.

Transformers made me develop interest into technical stuff and DIY stuff. This interest was implemented with playing around with Lego and making stuff designed in my mind instead of following the “make-a-car instructions”.

Fresh prince in bel-air, thought me what humor is. What is funny ? What do I laugh at and what don’t I find funny ? Maybe that’s why the same joke sounds funnier when a black guy tells it. The video games developed an interest for Information Technology, which is the field I’m currently working in.

The car magazines and the car programs on TV showed what cars are good and bad, and more importantly what cars have modifying potential. They also “helped” me develop a habit of buying very expensive car items (do you know what a big turbo or a high-end subwoofer cost ?). Additionally it further developed my DIY skills, as I worked on my own moped and later on my car.

Today, I’ve continued in my interest of cars and expanded my DIY skills and interest to include my house as well.

So TV made me what I am today (or part of me, I guess the rest was done by my parents).

With that said, now that I’m soon going to be a father, I wonder what will shape and mould the mind of Papa Junior/Juniorette.

As I see it, it will be a combination of Playstation 3+4+5 and Internet version 1+2 (currently running version 1). May God have mercy on Papa & Mama…
