Ignoring Junior backfires

It’s been a long time since I wrote. The main reason for this is due to some major construction work happening in our home. This completely changed my daily routine which also impacted my relation to junior.

Junior is now 2 years and 8 months old. He’s very mature for his age, has a good vocabulary, and is more challenged/stimulated with children older than him, compared to children at his age.

All in all, life is good and he is growing up fine.

In October Mama & Papa decided to rebuild one of our bathrooms. This meant that the majority of Papa’s daytime went on work, and the evenings with bathroom work. I had pretty much minimal time to spend with Junior.

In the beginning he would watch me work, steal my tools when I wasn’t watching, try to play with me. But he quickly realized that I didn’t have time for him and was ignoring him. So he started ignoring me too. I would have 10-15 minutes a day to spend with him and he would just ignore me and play with Mama instead.

I’ve realized that just like a relation to a co-worker has to be managed & maintained, the relation to your children has to be managed & maintained. I guess, event at this young age, I need him just as much as he needs me. He needs me as a parent, as a father, and I need him for some precious moments in life that I may never get again.

Thank god, the bathroom project is over and by end of November should be complete. I intend to spend more time during Christmas with him and try to recover some of the lost time.

To all the parents out there, try spending the holidays with your children & family and don’t get lost in the materialistic aspects of the holidays.
