Good tips for during or after birth - 20 Days To Go …

I’m so excited to become a dad. I can’t wait and the days are passing way too slow. Maybe you other soon-to-be-fathers can recognize what I’m saying. Especially now, when the time is getting close.

But the closer I get to the due date, the more afraid I also get. Weird thoughts starts to enter my mind

“Will I be a good dad ?”
“What if something happens to the baby/mom during birth ?”
“What if …”
“What if …”

So I sat down to read some folders I had lying around and found the following good tips, I thought I’d share with you:

Watching your baby coming into the world is the most incredible experience. The midwives will give you the baby to hold. Some men feel afraid of hurting such a tiny creature. Don’t be. Hold the baby close to your body. Feel the softness of the head against your cheeks. It’s good idea to have a week or so off work if you can, when your child is born. So you can think about following.

• You could look after the baby so your partner can get a good rest each day
• Take over the basic housework
• Try to use this time to get to know your baby
• You could bring your partner snacks/drinks while she feeds the baby
• When you go back to work you may have to makeup for loss earnings – but keep it minimum – you will want to continue learning about your baby and being there so you can watch your child grow and develop

Some men felt left out during all this pregnancy period. Your partner’s attention will be what’s happening inside her, and she may want you to pay more attention to her needs than usual.

Personally, I’ve taken 14 days off work to be with my new son/daughter and spend some time with my wife. This will help me learn about my baby, and help my wife so she can get some rest.

I wish the time would go faster …
